Astrophysicist and Entrepreneur Tom Chi Talks About the World of People
https://youtu.be/rPh3c8Sa37M is a talk I am watching since it popped up after posting about In Words Out Words in HoUSAtonic MA at Deb Koffman's Art Studio the first Tuesdays of the month, running for 14 years now.
Tom Chi shares that 'Everything Is Connected' and there's more to it than an abstract idea. He shares three stories, one of the heart, the breath and the mind. Should I summarize... Okay, so he mentions everyone has a beating heart that carries hemoglobin, which carries a bit of iron that is key for our existence. He then shares that iron is only created through a supernova (stars forming and exploding over and over.) He provides more insight into why stars form, 'galactic collision'.
This process takes a half billion years. He has to 'back up even more' to explain why galaxies collide, laniakeya- a dance of 100K galaxies colliding together. That starts the process for stars to collide which creates iron..and which in turn shows up in our blood.
On that basis, he shares we really are all connected by that kind of star magic (my summary) of creation of iron and the functioning of our bodies with iron-rich blood.
He then explores the life of chloroplasts that are found in plants. The outbreath we expel is mirrored by the plants 'in breath' and vice versa. These are the result of processes and products over many millions of years. Our breathing is part of a greater process, he offers, so shows our connection and value beyond what we likely could link only to our current life.
Then he explores the invention of the piano (and playfully shares maybe it's a requirement to learn piano if you are born Asian.) He uses the the idea that playing the piano is a Way of Being and Something to conceive of early on in life in this modern time. He offers the 'colors of being' as a way to consider the many skills and creative outlets and ideas one has linked to the time one lives in and access one has. Whatever we do or create then becomes a groundwork for others and future generations.
Rather than consider ourselves as part of a massive universe that doesn't matter and is separate from humanity. Yet what he suggests that how we exist and create profoundly affects others, the world and the biosphere. He offers we can be tremendous agents of creativity, consciousness and poslitive change and connectedness. We can also direct that energy in meaningful ways to help the planet. When people use their gifts and abilities, they can deepen their consideration of humanity and access more resources from one another and all fields.
The truth about how the universe is can inform our awareness and help us create lives and meaning with this as a foundational understanding.
That was a summary of Tom Chi's talk... Feel free to listen to all the details and see the amazing photo of the galaxy he shares as well.
