Sharin' Sharon CT, The Sharon Playhouse and Lots More!
With summer in the air (and tornadoes and even hurricane season news in Puerto Rico), it's time to think 'safety in numbers' and "musical numbers to keep our minds off the scary stuff" or maybe to Fundraise for the Causes whether locally or globally. I want to keep my priorities straight and the news that Puerto Rico is Not Ready for the new hurricane season is something locals are working to address in that sunny island and likely could use all the help they can get. The official word from FEMA that I heard on NPR while driving to the newly re-opened Sharon Playhouse, is that they have a lot of bases covered. It sounds like they were trying in main areas, but it's every barrio for itself.
Meanwhile I was among a dozen or so volunteers (including some Board Members, so thanks to y'all) who attended a special event to encourage us to feel connected to the new peeps at the Sharon Playhouse. We got a surprise sneak peak, rather up close and personal, with about twenty cast members doing a rousting song from the upcoming show, Anything Goes. We have to come back to see the tap, but we'll all get there at least once I'm certain.
We were also fed (delectable finger foods) and then led by the new directors, John Levinstein and Alan Wager, on a lovely tour of the (soon to be extra) cleaned theatre seats and amazing set which is in ship-shape condition with two levels of doors that light up in various hues. Downstairs, below the theater (or through the first show, below deck) we got to see a few dressing rooms and lounge area and then even got a tour of the costume shop complete with top designer on hand to show us around
."Oo, la-la!" I said when shown a dazzling red sequinned long dress which will be worn by the lead in Anything Goes that opens on June 15th, 2019! More news to follow but for now, get on over to their site and check out their Thursady 20-dollars/seat night and cabarets on some weekends and the main shows! Let's keep Sharing in Sharon CT and Everywhere we go! Don't forget there are concerts on the green from the Sharon Recreation on Wednesdays (with a rain place of the Congregational Church hall, across the way from the Sharon Library and Historical Society.)
Guess what the Historical Society will have a display of all summer long...If you Guessed the Sharon Playhouse, I'd love to say I'll give you free tickets, but I don't have them to hand out. Maybe tune into ol' Marshall Miles on 103.3 Robinhood Radio. Keep The Warner Theatre in mind also which offers many dance recitals this month. You may have to get tickets for one through the venue performing, but in any event know that Theatre is alive and well in the northwest hills.
There are Children's programs at both theatres as well as with Leslie Elias of The Grumbling Gryphons in Cornwall Ct. Of course if you are fortunate enough to be in Falls Village, you'll want to learn all you can about the Falls Village Children's Theater (FVCT, cute, huh?) Even cuter for many is the Falls Village Car Show..which feature show cars (how'd you guess?!) Now that event is free for spectators so plan your July 8th, 2018 around That Little Number and maybe meet Dennis Gage in person! I treasure meeting Thee Shirley Maldowney (Heart Like A Wheel movie tells her story, Hollywood style)
In terms of Sharin' the Good Life of these small towns, feel free to visit the friendly Falls Village Congregational Church for a 10 am Sunday Service or one of their many family- friendly events. They are having their church painted to the tune of a smooth $10K. Wouldn't it be nice to pitch in as one can as a person, business or other group and be part of the journey? All donations appreciated (and tax deductible..)
