Permaculture Princes and Princesses..Anytime You're Ready Walt D (or new Presidents to implement these inspiring, necessary ideas into education),a Show (or program) About the True Heroes of Plan-It Heart would be Nice, Smart and Life-Saving!
Who is gathering on rooftops and at Randall's Island in NYC, weekend after weekend to learn hands on and sit through hours of lectures and slide shows about remembering: WE.ARE. ON. EARTH!
That would be a group of about two dozen folks taking a Permaculture Class with Andrew Faust (applause, applause for ALL working along those lines, students and those interested, so hopefully that means YOU too!)
Every student (even googling info and watching a few videos, worth a few minutes of your precious time on a monthly basis or more) gets their time and money's worth. (if paying for a program with can range from sliding fee to about 1200 for a PC Basics 72-hour certification program if one does the work, it likely could be audited as well.)
So it's worth it for a great new way to understand the options for Working With Nature to care for People. the Earth and Resources (which are the first few letters of that big funny word PERmaculture which loosely means 'permanent agriculture' and speaks to using plants and low-tech ways to grow crops including agroforestry and woody plants and berries as well as herbaceous plants locally and with variety to keep nature and said plants in balance. Great wisdom and cool experiences are described...and enlivened both in the urban setting and in rural settings for those royal innovators (the lucky ones who found or earned funds to get involved with this widespread effort often linked to www.gaia.org to reshape society to help care for each other and the earth).
See more on Permaculture Brooklyn and check out a monthly meet-up on the 3rd Friday of the month. We are all stewards and basically royalty on the earth, gifted with far more resources and wisdom than we know if we only learn how to tap it! See the Permaculture Turtle Garden Game on this blog too which goes over more of the basic ethics and principles which can help anyone in their lives.
Some key concepts include ways to manage a person's or system's inputs and outputs, work along and in small groups, enjoy and observe nature from patterns to details and consider designs that also work in that way from long-term climate and landscape or water resources to more microclimate access and resources. Saving energy, using natural forces and elements (think sun, wind, water, land, slope, soil, plants, and wildlife) to help one achieve their goals can make one feel they've got money in the bank. Water and good dirt may be the new capital and as my Dad used to say, "they're not making any more land."
It's high time more people capture their water off their homes if not their bodies...and dilute the latter 10 parts water to any urine one may want to use to fertilize flower beds and so on (google ideas even at the Botanical Gardens in NYC) and stay within legal rules and regulations.
On that happy note, and sorry for how it may offend some, time for some needed R.E.S.T. after a moving event in Brooklyn NY where about 60 or more people enjoyed a 16th Community Dinner to build friendship and safety with those of another faith and speak to keeping them safe in days of discrimination, particularly after the election. Let's all rise to our higher sense of 'treating others the way we would want to be treated in a kind, generous way." Okay, bon appetit for a peaceful world!
